Whenever I see a book labeled "for DUMMIES" I skip it. After all, I'm not a dummy right? Well, after increasing my income and realizing that my spending is going out of control, I decided to start educate myself about personal finance by buying a series of books about the subject. Among them was this book. I started to read it with disdain, and then something happened...
Within 20 minutes of reading this book, I got results. I knew I had a problem controlling my weekly spending, so I started reading Part II, and they provided a very simple but important tips that I often overlook. So I logged on my bank account online and started to see where some of those charges were coming from. To my surprise some were from services I did not even use or not have to use(ie Rhapsody, Experian, ...). So I started to call each company's costumer service to cancel my account; in the event I did not muse their service over the past few months, I'd ask if I could be refunded for unused services. And guess what? most of them did. Some refunded me full amount and others a percentage of the monthly charge. I invested $11 in this book and already got more back from canceling unused services or products. And I am not done reading the book yet! Looking forward to cultivate a new discipline in my finances.
I would definitely recommend this book as long as you are an action oriented person. It's easy to read, and right to the point.

Dare I say... life changer? I'm an educated man but did not study business. And, as the authors point out, personal finance is not taught in most standard schools. Therefor this book contains a lot of must-know things that most people, I assume, just never had an opportunity to learn. I'm a young guy still so luckily it wasn't too late before I stumbled upon this book, and now I feel like making all my friends and family read it, too.
I can’t recommend this book enough! When I was in my 20’s I was taken advantage of by other who only had their own interests in mind. This book has helped my understand everything I needed to take control of my own finances and be successful. 20 years later I could retire by 50.
I purchased this book for a gift to a friend. She had just received some stocks as an inheritance, and told me that she was lost as to what to do with them. After learning more about her financial status, I suggested this book. She is thrilled with it because it gives a basic, beginners overview ( in EASY to READ language) as to "where to start" in assessing and managing your finances. She was thankful to also receive the Workbook - because it helped her to write it all down in one place. I would highly recommend this book. Even if you know a lot about how to manage your finances, this book is also good to make sure that you are using all the tools available to secure your financial health.
absolutely love this book. taught me so much that i wouldve never known about retirement planning, budgeting, and even investing. def not a dry read as there is some humor throughout but still straight to the point. just bought the homebuyers kit book from tyson and so far packed with so kuch info.
Informative and entertaining! Contains so much practical and pertinent information that everyone needs to know, written so that everyone can understand! I read this book several years ago, and recently purchased an updated version for each of my adult sons, plus and After50 edition for myself. Read it cover to cover, or use it for reference when a financial question arises. Absolutely the best personal finance reference I've read, and there have been several. Eric Tyson does a wonderful job bringing it down to a practical level - information you can really use, from buying a house to understanding insurance to investing for retirement, and more. Now I understand!
I'm only on page 136 but I'm blown away by how much information this author has covered- in such detail- yet totally easy to understand. I am a finance major and thought this book would be a little redundant but i'm now thinking, "Here is everything that I wish I learned in Business School about my personal finances!" Incredible book and I would Highly recommend it.
Also, Really appreciate the author's work/life or savings/life balance ideology. He has a very balanced view of being wise but not letting money take over your life. I appreciate him for that!
